About the data
Term dates are set locally, not nationally. In England and Wales, each local authority (or, in a few areas, an education service run jointly by several councils) sets term dates for the community and voluntary-controlled schools it maintains, and publishes them on its own website. In Scotland, each council does the same. Academies, foundation schools, voluntary aided schools and free schools are legally free to set their own dates and are common in many areas, particularly at secondary level.
Every date on this site traces back to an official authority or school source. Each authority page carries a source link and the date of the retained capture. A capture date does not establish that the source has remained unchanged. Dates are presented as factual calendar information; source documents, text, layout and database rights may have separate terms. We do not assert a blanket licence over council or school materials. Contact us with a rights concern.
This site includes 19,300 pages for open mainstream schools in England from the national Get Information About Schools register. A bounded pilot includes 3 school-specific calendars, checked against the schools' official sources. Other pages retain the authority calendar with its scope clearly labelled, and a link to the school for confirmation. Equivalent Welsh, Scottish and Northern Ireland layers await their own scope and source work.
